Why did we have to throw away the good qualities of the 50s at the same time as discarding racism, intolerance

There was a lot more good than bad about America in the 50s, but, a generation of spoiled brats that came of age in the 60s decided that, since American society was flawed, it had to be torn down and re-built to thier specifications.
