Why did my ex-guy friend call and ask if i have been talking about him?

He called and he was really quiet which is really weird for him because usually he calls me for a reason. Although, we have talked since my friend told him i liked him. he said he liked me as a friend. Two months haven;t heard from him. All he said was that he was going to transfer into a school in Brooklyn. When i go to school upstate. Everytime i would ask him something he would be like " I bet you talk about me alot," I was like no i really don't. When I asked him did he know a kid named jeff he lives in queens.He said no, but did you talk to him about me.That is all he kept asking and i got annoyed and told him i had to go. what ?
