What is the culture difference in using the term "wife beater shirt" between the northern and southern US?

This is the 'politically correct' world we live in. If she can't handle the occasional colloquialism, then perhaps she needs to live in a bubble. Some people like to get offended so that they can complain, get others in trouble, or inflate their sense of self-importance.
