Another pet rat question... please answer?!?

well I used to have a guinea pig and when it died I felt as if I hadn't spent much time with it... I was really excited for the first six months after I got it but then I lost interest. she died almost 2 years ago and I wanted to get some advice on if I should get a pet rat. I think I'm more mature now and I wouldn't want that to happen again. they (pet rats) would be kept in my room so it would be almost impossible to ignore them (my guinea pig was kept in a hutch outside). so has anyone ever lost interest in their pet rat(s)? I also heard that they are very interactive and curious. thank you!! (I think that's all for now)
